I'm Gerry Stewart, a Jill of all writing trades. I started Grimalkin Press in Glasgow, Scotland in 2003 to help individuals and small arts groups to edit and publish their work at reasonable rates. The press has gone quiet since I moved to Finland in 2010, but I am still available for editing and proof-reading work.
I'm a poet, editor, creative writing tutor and teacher. I have worked in the literary publishing and editing field since 1997, including four years at Chapman Publishing in Edinburgh.
I have experience editing a variety of projects: market research presentations, academic papers, translation work and poetry and non-fiction writing collections. My main fields of experience are literature, drama, film and media studies, but I also have experience in the social sciences and science. I am comfortable working in translated English from other source languages and have long experience working with English from Italian.
Recent clients include poet Willie Gowans, Aalto University, Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence and academics from Helsinki University and Åbo Akademi University. I am a member of the Nordic Editors and Translators organisation (NEaT) and on LinkedIn.
Let me help you polish your work, so it gets the most attention from your readers.
As of 2020 I am also offering mentoring for creative writers just starting in their career. I have over 20 years of publications in various poetry journals and magazines and have taught creative writing since 2001. I can provide feedback on your work or advice on where to go next to further your career.
Contact me at grimalkinpress@yahoo.it for more details or to discuss your project.

Proof-Reading and Editing - correcting grammar, syntax and typos, general linguistic mistakes.
I can also look at content and layout, where you might be unclear, missing information or need structural changes. I can make suggestions for stylistic changes to improve your writing, to make sure your point is coming across as effectively as possible.
I can also do typesetting and book design to PDF, but, unfortunately, I can no longer offer publishing services.
And as of 2020 I am offering my skills in mentoring creative writers, especially poets, who are just beginning in their career. I have over ten years experience as a creative writing tutor, my editing skills and also over twenty years of being a published poet. If you have a body of poems you want feedback to see if they are ready for publication or a collection you would like close reading for I can help. I can also give advice on how to get published and move forward in your writing career.
Editing work - Usually I negotiate work on a case-by-case basis, depending on whether you need a quick proofing or a full-service editing, assistance with final drafting. A general guide is €40/£35 per hour, but this is only a rough guide and will depend on what work is needed.
My own poetry collection published by Flambard Press, 2007.
Post-Holiday Blues
In Finland, I am available for poetry readings and creative writing tutoring for adults or children. I can run one-off sessions or extended classes on general creative writing, poetry, memoir writing and fiction/novel writing.
My new poetry collection Pocketsful of Rain will be published by Hedgehog Poetry Press in late 2023.
